Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I can afford a purchase?
Look at your future cash flow, not just your current balance. Add up upcoming bills before your next income, subtract from your balance, then see if there's room for the purchase without going negative.
What is "safe to spend"?
The amount you can spend now without your balance going negative before your next income. It's your current balance minus all upcoming bills due before you get paid.
Why can't I just look at my bank balance?
Your balance shows what you have now, not after upcoming bills. $1,000 today with $800 in bills due means only $200 is truly safe to spend.
How far ahead should I project?
At minimum, until your next income. Freelancers should project 2-4 weeks to catch timing issues. A 90-day view helps identify seasonal patterns.
